Pain Management at The Doctors Clinic

Pain can be attributed to many sources, both internal and external.

Pain, itself can differ from sharp to dull, or localized to shooting.

The important thing is to find the source of the pain if possible.

Our goal in pain management is to treat the source rather than try to mask the symptoms with medication.

Acupuncture

Ancient Treatment for Pain Still Used Today.

Acupuncture is a method whereby tiny needles are inserted at strategic locations on the human body to relieve pain and suffering from numerous ailments.

We don't know why acupuncture works, only that it does.

We know that it works on many people, and that it has an effect through the autonomic and central nervous system, as well as the circulatory system, but we have no explanation as to why.

As far as the needles are concerned, you will feel them.

Some needles may sting and some needles may go unnoticed; but they rarely hurt as much as an injection and only for a split second.

There is no medicine in or on the needles.

The secret is in placing needles in precise locations in the right manner.

Some diseases that respond well to acupuncture are:

* Facial pain
* Headaches
* Neuritis
* Sciatica
* Arthritis
* Joint pain

Fibromyalgia

THE PAIN...THE TENDERNESS...THE FATIGUE...THE INSOMNIA...THE HEADACHES...

NO...IT'S NOT ALL IN YOUR HEAD!!!

YES...WE TREAT IT!!!

Finding a doctor to treat the multitude of symptoms that can come with Fibromyalgia can not only be frustrating, but often times down right discouraging. A good idea for getting to the bottom of your symptoms is to start keeping a diary that you can review to see if there is something you can attribute your aches, pains, and tiredness to. List how you feel, what you eat, activities done that day. Then, sit down with the doctor in the diagnosis process.

One hallmark symptom of Fibromyalgia is PAIN, which early on may be attributed to general soreness or thinking one "over did it" the day before. It tends to start in the joints and radiate tot he muscles, areas commonly called TENDER POINTS. The joint pain is usually noted as stiffness in the mornings. But again this stiffness can also be attributed to weather changes, emotional and physical trauma, and general arthritis. However, this pain again is deep and it is on both sides of the body. Some common tender points include, but are not limited to:

1. Front sides of lower neck
2. Upper chest
3. Outer elbows
4. Inner knees
5. Base of skull
6. Top of shoulders
7. Between the shoulder blades
8. Upper hips
9. Sides of hips

The other hallmark sign is FATIGUE, which sometimes we are too easy to brush off. We may just attribute it to a hard day or a busy day, but this fatigue is different. It is deep and can even cause what some call a brain fog (forgetfulness, unclear thoughts, hard to concentrate).

SLEEP DISTURBANCES is another common change. Whether it be, insomnia or waking more often through the night, this needs to be dealt with quickly as it can add further fatigue to the body and mind.

Another common symptom early on with Fibromyalgia is HEADACHES, ranging from tension type all the way to debilitating migraines. The headaches may come and go and often change in intesity.

There are other symptoms of Fibromyalgia, but these are the most common. Through a variety of treatments and lifestyle changes, we can help you feel better and start living again. You don't have to live with the pain and frustration, we're here to help. Give us a call today at 806-355-8263 and take that first step to feeling good again!

Prolotherapy

Non-Surgical Ligament Reconstruction for Chronic Joint Pain Relief

Most joint pain (including back, shoulder, neck, and knee) is caused by ligament laxity or instability.

Ligaments are fibrous bands that stretch across joints attaching bones to each other.

If the ligaments are loose or weak, the joint becomes unstable and allows rubbing of the bones against the cartilage.

Cartilage creates a cushion between the bones.

This process in itself causes pain.

It often causes wearing down of the cartilage, allowing bone on bone; this of course, also causes pain.

In addition, this instability allows the bones to rub against other structures like nerves.

Once again, this causes pain.

If this weren't enough, the ligaments themselves have nerves, once they become loose or damaged, you will feel pain!

Tendons are the structures that connect muscles to bones.

Much like ligaments, tendons cause pain when they become damaged, torn and even partially torn.

Prolotherapy, administered by injection to the affected area, causes the "proliferation" or new growth/formation of ligament tissue in areas where it has become weak.

It does this by creating localized inflammation in the weak area; this in turn increases blood supply to the area, as well as delivering nutrients to the area and triggers the healing process.

It may take several treatments to achieve complete relief however, most patients start feeling the healing process begin after only one or two treatments.

These areas/injuries respond well to Prolotherapy:

* Back - all areas
* Slipped/ruptured disc
* Strained back
* Scoliosis
* Knee Pain
* Damaged ACL
* Medial and Lateral collateral ligament
* Shoulder
* Rotator cuff damage
* Hip
