Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Wound
Healing-
Stroke Recovery
Two Mono-Place Hyperbaric Oxygen Chambers, located at the Doctors Clinic
This therapy, often
referred to as HBOT or simply HBO, is a therapy in
which a person breathes pure oxygen under pressure.
This
pressure is greater than the pressure at sea level, thus
“hyperbaric.”
In average daily living, we breathe air which is only 21% oxygen.
That oxygen is carried throughout our body by way of red
blood cells.
By receiving 100% pure oxygen under pressure, the
oxygen is more readily dissolved into all body fluids,
including blood, plasma, lymphatic fluid, cerebrospinal fluid,
and interstitial fluid.
Hyperbaric pressure forces
oxygen into every cell of the body, regardless of the blood’s
ability to transport the oxygen.
This increase of oxygen can start a
chain of events that help reduce inflammation, promote healing, and
encourage tissue regeneration.
When administered by a well qualified and knowledgeable
physician and his/her staff, the results can be amazing.
HBO
has given hope to patients who had given up all hope.
It has
returned motor function to stroke victims, and allowed
wheelchair bound brain and spinal cord injured patients to return to the
world of the walking.
Hyperbaric oxygen can be
effective for the treatment of:
- Air or gas embolism
- Carbon monoxide
poisoning
- Smoke inhalation
- Gas gangrene
- Decompression
sickness (bends)
- Problem wound
healing
- Necrotizing soft
tissue infections
- Burn healing
- Radiation tissue
damage
- Compromised skin
grafts
- Stroke recovery
- Cerebral edema
- Brain injury
- Peripheral vascular
disease
- Spinal cord injury
- Surgery recovery
